YOUTH CLIMATE CORPS BC - KAMLOOPS
Empowering Youth for a Resilient Community
Welcome to Kamloops, a vibrant city nestled in the heart of British Columbia, Canada. Surrounded by stunning landscapes, Kamloops faces the challenges posed by climate change, like many other communities. Rising temperatures, extreme weather events, and the threat of wildfire smoke have become pressing concerns for the city. At Youth Climate Corps BC Kamloops, we believe that young people can play a pivotal role in building a more resilient community. Empowered with knowledge and passion, they can inspire change and drive meaningful action to tackle the impacts of climate change.
Land Acknowledgment
As we embark on this journey, we acknowledge that Kamloops is situated on the traditional territory of the Secwépemc Nation. We recognize and honour the enduring presence and stewardship of the Secwépemc people, who have lived on this land for time immemorial.
Meet the Kamloops Team
At YCCBC Kamloops, our team is driven by enthusiastic young leaders who are eager to make a difference. Led by Madi, the Kamloops Coordinator, and supported by Shannon, Nic, and Katie, YCCBC Kamloops ambassadors, we are committed to working together for a greener and more sustainable future. Congrats on leading the first-year YCCBC in Kamloops!
A Bright Vision
Looking to the future, we envision a thriving YCCBC presence in Kamloops, empowering more young leaders and expanding our collaboration with the community. By growing our Climate Friendly Homes Program and working with diverse partners, we strive to create a resilient and sustainable city.
Join the Movement
Youth have the power to ignite change and shape a brighter future. At YCCBC Kamloops, we invite young people to join our movement, where they can be agents of positive change and drive resilience within our community. Together, let's embrace the challenges of climate change and pave the way for a greener and more sustainable Kamloops.
Partnering for Progress
Collaboration lies at the heart of our mission. We proudly work alongside the City of Kamloops, BC Hydro, Kamloops Farmers Market, Butler Urban Farm, and many other community partners. Together, we aim to make a collective impact, spreading the message of climate action and environmental stewardship.
Empowering Change
Our projects in Kamloops range from supporting the growth of community gardens to promoting sustainable transportation through the Bike Valet initiative. However, our flagship program, the Climate Friendly Homes initiative, stands at the core of our efforts. This partnership with the City of Kamloops and BC Hydro empowers households to reduce energy costs, carbon pollution, and prepare for climate change impacts.
Within Youth Climate Corps, crew members are between 17-30 years old; they earn wages, gain work experience, build networks, and develop themselves personally and professionally. Meanwhile, they complete projects that both benefit their own communities and support global efforts to act on the climate crisis.
If you or your organization wants to learn more about how to team up with us and move forward on projects in your community, or if you are interested in funding one of our projects related to our different focus areas, we are here to support you.
