YCCBC North Vancouver Island Season Wrap-up

YCCBC crew members survey for European green crabs.

This week marks the end of the 2024 season for YCCBC’s North Vancouver Island crew. In partnership with the Kwakwaka'wakw Revitalization Project, the team has been working hard for months on a multifaceted initiative focused on cultural resurgence and land reclamation.

This past week, the project involved a European green crab survey. Guided by 'Namgis First Nations fisheries technicians, the crew gained hands-on experience in ecosystem preservation by surveying and removing this invasive and destructive crab species.

From protecting delicate ecosystem balances to revitalizing the Grassy Point campground site, the North Vancouver Island crew has made meaningful contributions to their community in just a few months. We can’t wait to do it again next year!

If you want to learn more about YCCBC and the Kwakwaka'wakw Revitalization Project, stay tuned for a short video coming soon.
